It meas to stop. The name zam zam comes from the event Hazrat hajra was looking for water and miraculously water came out of the baren land and She said stop stop (ZAM ZAM), to stop the flow of water.
Zam zam water is a holy water that Muslims use for religious and medicinal purposes. Millions of hajji drink it and bring it as a gift for their relatives and friends when they return home.
Zam Zam is the name of a well located within the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. It is considered one of the holiest and most sacred sites in Islam. According to Islamic tradition, the Zam Zam well is said to have miraculously appeared in the desert at the time of the Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) and his son Isma’il (Ishmael).
The name “Zam Zam” itself doesn’t have a specific meaning in Arabic; it is the name of the well. The water from the Zam Zam well is highly revered by Muslims and is believed to be blessed and pure. Pilgrims who visit Mecca often drink from the Zam Zam well and may also take some of its water home as a souvenir and for its spiritual significance.
A place was created to rub the heels of Ismail (peace be upon him).
It is famous that Hazrat Ismail (peace be upon him) was stopping the water from coming to him and he said “stop stop”.
There is a well in Makkah which is situated to the south-east of the Kaaba. Pilgrims and Umrah pilgrims drink its water as a blessing.(والله اعلم )
