The first Thanksgiving of the nation is traditionally pinpointed to the place of the Pilgrims in Massachusetts in 1621. They rejoiced over their first bountiful harvest season by having a feast. This gathering is usually given as the starting point of the Thanksgiving holiday in the USA.
On the other hand some cultures and regions have had their own meaning and purpose of harvest festivals and thanksgiving celebrations throughout history.
